Iguana Threeway Handbag, a Wearable Sculpture
Materials and Process:
A new collection of sculptural handbags, inspired by my home of Oaxaca, its gorgeous and resilient women, and the exquisite photography of Graciela Iturbide and Edward Weston.
This first bag is called Iguana, after an iconic image I have loved deeply for many years by Graciela Iturbide titled Nuesta Séñora de la Iguana, 1979, taken in Juchitan, Oaxaca.
The one of a kind bag is made with hand pleated silk and natural dyes, made to look reptilian in nature. It has a silk bright orange lining and and a silk velvet strap and trim which can be worn as a clutch as shown here or as a shoulder bag with long or short strap. A portable little sculpture, just the right to fit a phone, lipstick and keys.
It can be worn three ways: as a clutch with the strap tucked in, as a long cross-body or knotted as a wristlet.
Color: Natural Dyes, shades of green and grey with deep purple accents
Textile: Silk exterior and interior with antique silk velvet trim and strap
Care: Dry clean only
